Hi everyone,
just wanted to wish fellow die-hard NeXT-fans and members of this list a
Happy Christmas and New Year, and let's hope Santa Jobs delivers some
interesting "presents" on Jan 7th. Fanciful rumours of G5s apart, convincing
stories are abounding of Apple finally replacing the (IMO) tired iMac with a
new consumer desktop, most probably an all-in-one LCD flat panel iMac
successor.... which would be nice. There's also talk of NEXTSTEP 6.1.2 (err,
sorry, I mean OS X 10.1.2 :->) becoming the default O/S on all new Macs
shipped (at present, both OS 9 and OS X are pre-installed, but 9 is the
default system at power-on; this will reverse that situation). Now if only
they'd make the GUI faster [how much more powerful is an 866 MHz G4 than a 33
MHz 68040!?], a bit less fuzzy, with left-sided scroll-bars and vertical
tear-offable menus (oh, and have more than one window-resize location), we'd
nearly be in the NeXT "promised land"! :-) And another thing, whatever
happened to fax support!? Put it back in the print panel guys.
Here's an interesting piece (seen today via Stepwise) to read and ponder
over the holiday: http://www.applelinks.com/mooresviews/xvslin.shtml
best wishes,
charles [uk-ns-users list-owner... for my sins]
