ECONOMIC STATISTICS WORK PLANS FOR 2001 TO 2003
A MEETING ORGASISED BY THE ROYAL STATISTICAL SOCIETY (OFFICIAL STATISTICS
SECTION) IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FINANCIAL STATISTICS USER GROUP AND THE
NATIONAL ACCOUNTS USER GROUP
WEDNESDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 4 PM TO 6 PM at the Royal Statistical Society,
London.
On 8 March 2001 the first-ever comprehensive work plan for National
Statistics (NS) was published. It is divided into twelve themes (subject
groups) each of which have their own more detailed work plans published on
the NS web site (www.statistics.gov.uk \themes\economy\whatsnew.asp). The
new Statistics Commission (www.statscom.org.uk) will be commenting on the NS
work plan and their comments will also be published. They are currently
inviting views from users.
The process of published work plans will be rolled forward and updated each
year, in the light of new events and comments from outside bodies. The next
plans are due to be published in the first quarter of 2002. This meeting is
therefore your chance to hear the views at first hand from the ONS and from
a member of the Statistics Commission. But more importantly to put your
questions to the speakers, and thereby influence the content of next year's
plans.
Speakers will include: John Kidgell, Director of Economic Statistics at the
ONS and chair of the Economy Theme Working Group of NS. Martin Weale.
Member of the Statistics Commission; chair of the National Accounts User
Group; and Director of the National Institute of Economic and Social
Research.
