How can a poet respond to this kind of horror?
I've seen some wild emotionalism and attempts to intellectualise (which is
to say, to tame) the event .
One poem impressed me greatly, when the poet's daughter sent it to a mailing
list (for Victorian Literature).
It is a sonnet by Christopher Webber, expressing his frustration at being
away from his New York home, confronting his more violent reactions, and
ending with disquiet rather than comfort.
I have gained his permission to put it on the index page of Snakeskin for
the rest of this month.
