Don't know about that - I don't find Picasso misogynist so much as
hyperactively virile - there is a difference. And although De Kooning's
not my favourite artist, there's a delicacy in the best work of his that
I've seen I would hesitate to anathematise like that. The most
misogynist painting I've ever seen was by the German Expressionist
painter Otto Dix - a grotesque old woman in a corset and stockings
simpering in a mirror - full of tormented hatred, ouch! A disturbingly
powerful painting -
