Dear friends of the Ph.D design list.
For some time I have invested heavily in understanding the senses and
how to cope with them research wise. There is a big literature. Much of
the systematic experiences with the senses are acquired in the food
industry, drinks and fragrances.
Yet, it seems to me that this must be an urgent issue for design
research. many practitioners have told me so and I believe them. Is it
also a big issue in design research?
With a colleague, I am preparing a "sensoric laboratory", where we aim
to test (rapid) prototypes, packaging, food products and designed object
in general. We are interested in whether our test persons can identify
differences between originals and copycats, whether they identify the
differences between two prototypes etc. and how much the differences
mean to them. Like would they sacrifice some textural elements for
higher density, how do they perceive the context-dependance of colors
etc.
I now wonder, are there other in the design field with this interests.
What can I learn from their experiences? Would somebody be interested in
co-operation?
Best wishes
Tore Kristensen
