THE OPEN UNIVERSITY
FACULTY OF ARTS
TEMPORARY PART-TIME LECTURER IN MUSIC
(Part-time (0.6))
This post covers the secondment of two members of staff to posts of
additional responsibility in the Faculty and is available for three years
and five months. For appointment you need to show that you can contribute
generally to the life of the Department and specifically to the
maintenance and development of courses in Music and in the
Interdisciplinary curriculum of the Arts Faculty. Academic staff at The
Open University are not involved in day-to-day face to face teaching, but
showing that you can sympathise with and understand the strengths of our
students, and also the difficulties they can face will be valuable.
Because we want you to be able to contribute to the established research
culture of the Music Department and the Faculty, you will need to
demonstrate a (developing or established) record of research publications.
The Faculty has a proud record of collective working in teaching and
encourages involvement in research groups; we encourage applications from
those who want to work in such a culture.
You should have completed or be close to completing a doctorate in a
musical topic and have a record of research publications or evidence of
potential to conduct scholarly research. Any research specialism will be
considered to extend or to complement the Department's present research
activity. You will be expected to become involved in a range of
departmental activities. An understanding of the nature of the Faculty's
courses and the needs of adult learners is desirable, as are
word-processing and basic computing skills.
Appointment will be on the Academic staff salary scale (pro rata): GBP
20,267 - 24,193 (as from 01.03.02 GBP 20,470 - 24,435) or GBP 25,203 -
32,215 (as from 01.03.02 GBP 25,445 - 32,537) according to academic
attainment and experience.
