Some years ago the Bristol "Evening Post" carried a story about an iron mine
somewhere to the north of the city (I can't remember exactly where, but it may
have been in the Coalpit Heath area) which was abandoned in the late
nineteenth century and which, after it had filled with water, was used as a
reservoir by the local water company.
