Can anyone supply me with any information about the Burntisland Vitriol Company who were operating in Burntisland, Fife during the later C18th and early C19th? When was this company operating from and till and how were they making their "oil of vitriol" (i.e. sulphuric acid)? What raw material was the company basing their vitriol process on? Where they using copperas stones as their raw material or precipitated sulphate salts from a local mineral rich water source? Any ideas or info., no matter how small would be appreciated.
Merry Xmas (what's remains of it) & Happy New Year to all in the group
