As one of the NHS libraries that will have access to Zetoc, I am left wondering,
what, if any, use it will be to us? As it only has article titles how are people
suppose to decide if an article is going to be any good before requesting it?
Resort to Medline etc?
Why bother with Zetoc in the first case? The cynic inside me thinks it seems for
a good way for the BL to get more ILL requests.....
Perhaps some HE colleagues that have access to the system would be kind enough
to summarise how useful or otherwise they find the service??

Just some further clarification for those of you working in NHS/with NHS
staff:
JISC has extended funding access to this BL database service to the NHS, so
end users will have free access. I've been told that this will be from
'later this year'. There isnt an exact date yet, but I will email the list
again as soon as I hear myself.
zetoc is already free to endusers in the further/higher education community
at ac.uk addresses, so if you work there and havent heard about it, you and
your end users are missing out!
To quote from the flier:
zetoc is a database of over 15m articles titles from the 20k 'most important
research journals in the world', and over 100k conference papers indexed to
paper title level.
Results can be viewed on screen and emailed, and there are plans for an
article alerting service. Its Z39.50 compliant and can be searched on its
own or with other databases.
Further details at http://zetoc.mimas.ac.uk
If you are not in the NHS or UK academic community, the nearest product is
the BL's inside database. Its not identical; focusses on being an integrated
current awareness and article ordering service on the web, aiming at 2 hour
document delivery. More info on that at http://www.bl.inside/ Its not free,
tho. You can get a 30 day free trial if you email [log in to unmask]
