tion?(?)
Dear Colleagues:
THis is being broadcasted "just in case" some of you were puzzling over
same. I hope this solves our up-to-now lack of clarification.
1. Evidence Based Medicine (a hot topic, too) is still being published in
GB, but not available in the US. (Availability ceased with 2000)
2. ACP Journal Club , 2000- picked up the Evidence based info and
incorporated it.
3. Best Evidence is an online product from the ACP, version 4 came out in
March 2000, version 5 due March 2001. It includes the ACP.
4. Evidence-Based MedicineReviews: Online databa via OVID, includes ACP,
Best Evidence & Cochrane.
Hope some of you find the above of interest.
Happy 2001 -

For a resource about planning outreach you may be interested in a free
publication called Measuring the Difference: Guide to Planning and
Evaluating Health Information Outreach. The guide has lots of tips and
examples regarding program development and evaluation, especially
outreach targeting health providers or the public who are
unaffiliated or underserved. It also features theories about ways to
motivate/facilitate changes in information seeking behaviors.
To receive free copies, send an email request for "evaluation guide" to

The guide is new, produced as part of a collaborative study about
outreach evaluation by the Pacific Northwest Regional Medical
Library and the National Library of Medicine. White papers from other
fields were commissioned for the project (see

Subject: IC & fire safety during construction
We are looking for information, guidelines, or policies regarding
infection control and fire safety as they apply specifically to
construction projects in and around a clinic and/or hospital.
This concern includes protecting construction workers from nosocomial
infections, as well as controlling the spread of infections or threat of
fires in a clinic and/or hospital during any kind of construction,
remodeling, etc.
Thank you.

Subject: consumer anatomy site
in checking my links this week, I noted the AMA anatomy site was gone. It
had provided clear, simple drawings of parts of the body, and was
particularly useful at our mall consumer sites.
I was unable to ascertain it's current status. Anyone know; any
suggestions for a substitute (Versalis is way to graphic)

Subject: ? Tx bites by Leptostraca Nebaliidae
The larger question is do you have a great resource for information on
treatment of wounds as a result of human interaction with marine
creatures?
The immediate question is: Do you have any information on the medical
treatment of bites by sea fleas/Nebalia? Or suggestions as to someone I
could contact? I've been asked to find treatment information for a
patient with infected bites. I have not been able to find anything
specific and so assume that they are not venomous and that treatment
should be similar to that of other minor skin infections/bug bites
I have looked at the books Halstead's _Poisonous & venomous marine
animals_ &
_Dangerous marine animals_, Thomas & Scott's _All stings
considered_, _Dangerous plants, snakes, arthropods and marine life_, and
(my only success) the _McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of science and
technology_. As well as searched Micromedex and MEDLINE. Using Google I
was able to find a few WWWeb pages, but so far they are simple biology
identification pages.

Subject: Search question--continue same meds
I have run out of ideas on this search request: Sometimes when a patient
is transferred from one unit to another, i.e. from the ICU to the medical
unit, the doctor will write a medication order that says,"Continue same
meds" or "Continue previous meds." Sometimes this results in the patient
receiving medication after it is no longer needed. Is there anything
written about this subject? The patron has also seen a reference to
something in the ISMP Medication Safety Alert but neither one of us can
find anything on it in their web site.
I have tried every combination of mesh headings and textwords that came to
mind, resulting in only a couple of citations that are marginally useful.
Does anyone have any fresh ideas for me?
Thanks,
Jenny

Jenny,
Go to the ISMP (www.ismp.org) website and look under 'lead stories'. The
fourth story down is: "Orders to 'continue previous meds' continue a
longstanding problem."
