The timetable for the day is given below. Participants are welcome to attend
both sessions, or just the morning session. The afternoon session is only
open to those who have attended the morning session.
Session 1: Tour the sites - hands-on session
Time: 1000-1245
Workshop objectives:
By the end of the session participants will have:
. Gained an overview of the resources relevant to the Social
Sciences that are funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee
(JISC) and Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC)
. Explored selected resources
. Found out about some of the training and awareness raising
opportunities available from the resource providers.
Session 2: Becoming a resource guide - resource promotion
Time: 1345-1600
Workshop objectives:
By the end of the session participants will have:
. Explored some of the issues/challenges in relation to effective
resource support/training and awareness raising
. Found out what's involved in delivering a taster workshop and/ or
using the workshop materials
. Considered how to go about raising awareness of resources at your
institution
Background
The workshops are being run by Karen Ford, Resource Guide Adviser for the
Social Sciences, Institute for Learning and Research
Technology, University of Bristol.
The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the Economic and
Social Research Council (ESRC) fund an extensive range of social
science resources for the education community.

Pre-requisites
===============
Participants should have basic browser, mouse and keyboard skills and a
sense of adventure!
PLEASE NOTE
Refreshments will be provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon, but
participants will be expected to make their own arrangements for lunch. The
LRC is very close to a number of eating places.
