Netskills workshop: Internet Resources for Further Education
If you work in Further Education in the areas of teaching and learning,
curriculum/course design and development or associated areas, and would like
access to FREE, or low cost, high quality teaching and learning resources,
this workshop is suitable for you.
With the connection of all FE colleges to JANET a wealth of quality
resources and services are now available to the FE community, many of which
are free at the point of use. This workshop, brought to you by Netskills and
partly funded by the JISC, offers an opportunity to discover, learn about
and explore these high quality resources and services.
This may be the last chance in your area to attend this workshop, run as a
programme throughout the country in all the FE regions and heavily
subsidised, some of the last locations and dates near the end of this
programme are:
May 15th Barnfield College, Luton
May 22nd Upper Bann Institute of FHE, Portadown, Co Armagh
May 24th North West Institute of FHE, Derry
June 7th York College
June 19th Somerset College of Art and Technology, Taunton
full details are available on our website at:
http://www.netskills.ac.uk/workshops/forthcoming.html
including an online booking form.
In addition, complementary workshops are being run alongside these dates in
Northern Ireland:
May 23rd Using the Internet for Learning and Teaching for FE
Upper Bann Institute of FHE, Portadown, Co Armagh
May 25th Using the Internet for Learning and Teaching for FE
North West Institute of FHE, Derry
In brief, the workshop looks at the wide variety of services and resources
available for learning and teaching provided by the JISC, a committee
funding internet projects for Colleges and Universities connected to the
JANET network. This includes evaluated and catalogued subject based and
general reference material (e.g. dictionaries, languages, art, music), where
to find and how to access full text books and journals, Datasets
e.g.Geographical, digital maps, census data, and subject specific learning
resources.
The workshop is hands-on with a networked PC for each participant, and has a
very good approval rating from participants who have attended the workshops
that have currently been completed across the UK. Participants need no
special technical skills although basic use of a web browser and
Microsoft Windows would be helpful.
Included in the workshop is a feedback session which is an invaluable
opportunity for FE to have a voice on what kind of content and services the
community wish to see provided through their link with the JISC.
Colleges should take the opportunity during this round of workshops to take
advantage of this subsidised programme as these are the final workshops in
this programme. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Regards,
Rob
