WORKSHOP ON CATALOGUING EXHIBITION CATALOGUES

AUDIENCE AND GENERAL OUTLINE:
Due to popular demand and following on from the recent launch of the
publication Art Exhibition Documentation in Libraries: Cataloguing
Guidelines compiled by the ARLIS/UK & Ireland Cataloguing and Classification
Committee, this one day workshop will begin with presentations on recent
projects dealing with the documentation of art exhibition catalogues. The
afternoon session will focus on practical issues associated with cataloguing
art exhibition catalogues including the application of AACR2. Participants
will work in small groups on a range of examples helped by expert
facilitators. The workshop is intended for cataloguers at all levels of
experience and especially for those new to cataloguing.
Presentations will include:
* The retrospective conversion of exhibition catalogues in the
National Art Library's Collection / Bernadette Archer, Heritage Project
Manager, National Art Library
* The research behind the publication The Victoria and Albert Museum:
a Bibliography and Exhibition Chronology, 1852-1996 / Elizabeth James,
National Art Library
* The RSLP funded HOGARTH Project (Helpful Online Gateway to ART
History) / Sarah Gilmour
* Applying AACR2 to the exhibition catalogue: the need for guidelines
/ Nicola Hunt, Tate Gallery Library and Anne Sutherland, British Library)
