Headache?
Tense, nervous headache?

The popular image is that ours is a quiet profession.

In reality, stress levels are rising and rising.

If you are feeling stressed, this is the course for you!

“Stressed out” or “Stress, out!!” is aimed at library staff at
all levels.  It brings together the findings of recent research
into stress in the LIS sector with practical workshops on how to
combat and cope with stress and its causes.

So if you want to stop worrying and start loving your job book
today!

10.00   Stress in academic library work: a study of librarian-
student interaction
- Olivia Pearson, Subject Librarian for Business & Management,
University of Westminster
-Olivia will report on her PhD research that focuses on
(potentially) one of the most stressful elements of academic
library work.

10.45   The pressure is on!
- Andrew Lees, Management Consultant & Management and
Organisational Development Officer, Bayer plc
-Andrew will lead an interactive workshop session exploring the
causes of stress, the impact stress has on you and your
colleagues, how stress can affect behaviour and how you could be
causing stress in others.  He will then look at strategies for
managing stress and ways of reducing stress whilst maintaining
performance.

14.00   Relaxation techniques
- Caroline Merry, Counsellor, University of Oxford Counselling
Service
-We don’t need to be taught how to get stressed …but relaxing
properly is another matter.  Caroline will lead a workshop
exploring practical techniques that might work for you.

15.30   Tea

15.45   Managing your time …and yourself
- Janet Pryse, Staff Training and Development Officer,
University of Reading
-Janet will lead a workshop looking at techniques for managing
time, email, paper, information overload …and yourself.

16.45   Closing remarks


PLEASE NOTE:  The workshop sessions will be highly interactive.
Delegates are advised to wear casual attire.

Rewley House is near the centre of Oxford, a ten minute walk
from the railway station and a five minute walk from the bus
station at Gloucester Green.  The nearest car park is at
Gloucester Green.  Anyone not wishing to drive into the city
could alternatively use Oxford’s Park and Ride system.
