RoweCom Plans Move to Oxford
----------------------------
Folkestone – 1st February, 2001: RoweCom UK is pleased to announce that it
proposes to relocate many of its UK headquarter functions to Oxford from
their present Folkestone location. All sales, marketing, customer
services, book and standing order departments are planned to be housed in
new office premises in the city.
To improve the logistics for RoweCom’s staff when visiting customers, or
for customers when visiting RoweCom, it is obvious that a more central
location is needed. Oxford is not only well positioned geographically with
good transport links, it is also increasingly Britain’s hub for academic
publishing.
RoweCom’s senior management recognised the need to establish a more
integrated position within the information community. Being adjacent to
publishers, booksellers, database producers and aggregators brings its own
unity and efficiency to the operation. Richard Hodson, RoweCom UK’s
Managing Director, is clear on this point, “As we grow, we can call on a
local labour pool of experienced personnel to add immediate strength to our
workforce. We also know that being close to other related businesses would
enable visitors to include RoweCom on their itinerary when in Oxford.”
Moving closer to many academic customers, and to the learned publishers
with whom RoweCom conducts business, will broaden the channels of
communication to the benefit of all parties.
Charles Germain, President RoweCom Europe, Asia-Pacific & Latin America,
stated, “Moving to a centre of academic excellence like Oxford can only be
perceived as beneficial by customers and enhances our credibility in the
eyes of the information industry at large. It sends a strong message of
commitment to the future as we, not only continue to service the library
community, but also expand into the wider market for information resources
in the UK & Ireland.”
Exact details of the relocation are being finalised and these will be made
public shortly. RoweCom expects much of the process to be complete by the
end of April and believes that this is the best, and indeed easiest, time
of year for such a change to take place. There is a deep conviction that
RoweCom’s services will be stronger and more responsive to market
expectations as a result of these changes.
As an innovator in business-to-business e-commerce, RoweCom develops and
operates global web-based solutions that enable organisations to purchase
and manage knowledge resources such as magazines, newspapers, journals, CD-
ROMs and books.
