The IHO/IAG/IOC Advisory Board on the Law of the Sea (ABLOS) is convening an
international conference on "Accuracies and Uncertainties in Maritime
Boundaries and Outer Limits", on October 18 and 19, 2001 at the
International Hydrographic Bureau in Monaco.
Specialists in international maritime law, geodesy, hydrography, and
geoscience will address the legal problems, the technical issues, and the
difficulties that affect the determination of Maritime Boundaries, including
the outer limit of the Juridical Continental Shelf. In addition to
describing errors of measurement, of computation, and of legal and technical
interpretation, speakers will examine techniques for their circumvention.
They will also discuss the determination of confidence limits for Boundaries
and Limits, and the meaningful definition of their accuracies.
This Conference will provide useful information and advice over a range of
topics that impact on negotiators, planners, program managers, project
consultants and advisors, GIS practitioners, specialists, marine surveyors,
data analysts, specialists in international law, and service providers.
Information concerning registration and the submission of abstracts may be
