10 May 6.30 p.m. -Lecture: "The History and Development of Chocolate" by
James Runcie
The Discovery of Chocolate is James Runcie's first novel, a fabulous tale
as rich and exotic as the wonderful "chocolatl". He will briefly explain to
us the history and development of chocolate. The story begins in the
jungles of Mexico and Central America with the complex processes necessary
to transform its bitter seeds into chocolate. This was centuries before
chocolate was consumed, traded and used as currency by the sophisticated
Maya, and the Aztecs ... James Runcie is an award-winning filmmaker. He was
a Producer for BBC Arts and Classical Music and now works from Oxford
Television where he has a four-film deal for Channel 4. He was part of the
original team that created 'The Late Show' and he has also worked in
theatre. He has reviewed books for The Daily Telegraph, written feature
articles for diverse publications and served on the Arts Council Literature
Panel from 1990-1994.
