Keynote speakers:
Professor Robert J Sternberg, Yale University
Professor Stephen Newstead, University of Plymouth
This conference will provide a forum for the transfer and take-up of
knowledge and practice within Psychology undergraduate and postgraduate
teaching, learning and assessment.
The major aim of this conference is to bring together:
- Lecturers and postgraduates teaching psychology
- Support staff working with psychology departments
- Researchers in the teaching of psychology
- Organisations implementing policy related to teaching in higher education
- Developers and publishers of psychology resources
CONFERENCE PATHWAYS
The Conference has five pathways:
- Teaching, Learning and Assessment
- Research and Theory
- Departmental Issues
- Policy in Higher Education
- Exhibition
Teaching, Learning and Assessment (Pathway 1) Submissions to this pathway
will focus on experiences related to effective practice in learning,
teaching and assessment. For example, teaching techniques, reports of
innovative practice, the use of information technologies, developments in
the curriculum or issues related to the study of a particular area of
psychology.
Research and Theory (Pathway 2) Submissions to this pathway will focus on
research into the learning and teaching of psychology and into teaching
methodologies that are applicable to the discipline. For example,
theoretical perspectives, action research, evaluation methods, critical
thinking, problem-based learning.
Departmental issues (Pathway 3) Submissions to this pathway will focus on
generic issues that are of concern to many psychology departments. For
example, assessment and examining procedures, curriculum issues, student
progression and support, virtual learning environments, graduate teaching
assistants, peer observation of teaching, course management and
organisational change.
Policy in Higher Education (Pathway 4) This pathway is dedicated to
discussion sessions led by invited speakers from national policy bodies,
for example, QAA, ESRC, the National Disability Team, Fund for the
Development of Teaching and Learning, JISC initiative and the British
Psychological Society.
Exhibition (Pathway 5) The conference will include posters and
demonstrations as well as a commercial exhibition. Submissions are invited
from:
a) departments and individuals (academic posters)
b) textbook publishers (commercial)
c) software and hardware providers (commercial)
d) educational resources (commercial)
