The Sexual and Gender Based Violence Initiative is a
project recently undertaken by the Reproductive Health
for Refugees Consortium* to improve international and
local capacity to address sexual and gender based
violence (SGBV) among refugee and internally displaced
populations. With funding from the U.S. Department of
State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration
(BPRM), the Initiative will produce
1) a global report on current multi-sectoral responses
to SGBV in refugee and internally displaced settings
that variously addresses conflict/post-conflict rape
and other forms of sexual assault; family/intimate
partner violence; trafficking of women; and female
genital mutilation;
2) a web-based bibliography of current SGBV
literature, accessible by international and local SGBV
program planners, managers, and staff;
3) a draft SGBV standardized assessment tool to assist
implementing agencies in the design, monitoring and
evaluation of international SGBV programs.
Please help to ensure that the above activities are
inclusive of your resources and practical experiences.
If you or your organization has specialized knowledge
of international SGBV theory, assessment
methodologies, program design and/or implementation,
please tell us about your project, recommend relevant
literature, and share your assessment tools.
