Dear all,
Anyone interested in issues pertaining to the deposition of archives may
be interested in the recently published second edition of the Digital
Archives from Excavation and Fieldwork Guide to Good Practice from the
Archaeology Data Service.
The Guide is available from our website:
http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/project/goodguides/excavation/
and also from Oxbow Books (www.oxbowbooks.com) in the next couple of
weeks.
The Guide was written by a committee representing all facets of the
archaeological community and was fully peer reviewed. It deals with
issues such as:
* what should be deposited in a digital archive from an excavation and
fieldwork project
* when should the archive be deposited
* what kinds of file formats are best for preservation purposes
* what kind of documentation is necessary
* how distributed archives containing digital, artefactual, ecofactual
and documentary records can be 'joined-up' through the use of a widely
available internet index.
Cheers,
Damian
