Isabel Holroyd presented the proposed data standard for intangible concepts
for use in indexing archaeological data and documents that will initially
serve to update and replace the CBA archaeological index currently used for
indexing British and Irish Archaeological Bibliography abstracts (Cherry
Lavell Council for British Archaeology, 1987). The proposed thesaurus would
cover the middle ground between the subject specific areas covered by
existing thesauri and the very abstract indexing tools such as the proposed
HILT standards, or the Dewey Decimal system.
BIAB propose to host a day-long seminar for organisations and other
interested parties from across the UK and Ireland in the Autumn/Winter.
Discussion identified the work on HEREIN as potentially a useful source for
the BIAB thesaurus, as it covers policy issues. It was AGREED that FISH will
support the BIAB proposal.
