i stopped in at a bar across from my apartment to watch the speech...I
couldn't believe it...Bush's grin grew with each applause...very
cathartic...war does wonderful things for confidence...those in power, at
least...
the speech was very pretentious...at times it was downright bizarre: I
especially sank when "women and children" were evoked as bargaining chips to
provoke unified support for our goals as a country. "attacks on women and
children..."
and what about
homeland security?
here we go...civil liberties to the trash...we now must realize that we live
in an oligarchy...democracy be damned...individual rights will be sacrificed
at the request of the community which is now and will ever dominated by a
powerful few disguised as a kind majority.
i thought it was just, though, that Bush's reminder of the events last week
is a cop's badge...of all the symbols to use, he had to call into the public
mind an arresting image...women and children aren't that powerful, i
guess...
