As far as WW1 films, it seems to me that little surpasses Kubrick's ``Paths
of Glory'' in its dramatization of the mad internal logic of trench warfare,
and its immediate human consequences.
For a truly original WW2 film that depicts the mysteries and realities of
that forgotten battleground--The Eastern Front--search out Elim Klimov's
``Come and See.'' This is the supreme example of war seen through children's
eyes, and certainly the equal of the very different Tarkovsky.
