For what it's worth, I really appreciate the comments and views of JMC
and Chandrika, though perhaps they are often in direct conflict with
each other. Each has their own very well defined self/world view and I
think their comments, (when related to film), enhance my study and
understanding, while also challenging me to closely examine my own
self/world view. Just this morning while driving, I was thinking about
an exchange I had had with JMC, and though I was not in total agreement,
our exchange did bring some new things to light for me and for that I
was quite thankful to JMC.
In the same vein, I have always been encouraged that Chandrika knows so
much of Indian Cinema, as I am very interested in that topic, (to the
point that a friend of mine has agreed to teach me Hindi this summer),
and would love to learn more about the filmmakers, the culture and the
evolution of the cinema there. I'm having a hard time getting past all
of the "Bollywood" films, but have been able to find a handful of
Satyajit Ray films, for which I am thankful, and the films "Fire" and
"Chutney Popcorn" which has just been released. However, I would like to
learn so much more of the history of Indian Cinema in addition to the
current trends and attitudes.
I guess in short, I do hope that both JMC and Chandrika will be able to
find some kind of truce with each other as I think both have so much to
offer the myself and the list!
