The Commonwealth Science Council, UK and the Indian Electronics
Components
Industry Association (ELCINA) is organising a training session on Supply
Chain Management and Eco Design for the eletronics industry in New
Delhi,
India from 12-14 Feb 2000. The need for training on the subject was
identified by a recent study on sustainable trade in electronics
components in India, conducted by the International Institute for
Environment and Development, London and the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New
Delhi.
The electronics industry is characterised by rapid technological change,
complex supply chains and high rates of product obsolesence. It is also
faced with a number of sustainability constraints (environmental,
social,
disposal, recycling, reuse), lack of awareness of environmental
requirements in export markets, and of the concept of eco-design. The
training session will sensitise and train manufacturers and suppliers
of components as well as policy makers in India and other Asian
countries on:
supply chain management, communications, links with environment
management systems, innovation and sustainable design.
The training will be conducted in collaboration with Professor Martin
Charter from The Centre for Sustainable Design, UK, the Rajiv Gandi
Foundation, New Delhi.
