ESRC Sustainable Technologies Programme:
Meeting for researchers
The ESRC has made an investment of 3 million over 5 years in a new
Sustainable Technologies Programme (STP). This programme will be part of
the Government's Sustainable Technologies Initiative (STI), launched last
year by the DTI and EPSRC. The aim of STP is to encourage critical social
science contributions to the understanding of what sustainable technologies
may be, and how they are generated, adopted and diffused (for more details
see:
http://www.esrc.ac.uk/ESRCContent/researchfunding/sustech.asp
The ESRC is keen for the Programme to start quickly - the first call for STP
coincided with the third call of the STI on November 15th, with a deadline
for outline proposals on January 11th 2002.
A consultation for the social science research community on the new
programme will be held on Wednesday December 5th at the Institute of
Materials, 1 Carlton House Terrace, London. The meeting will run from 10am
until 1pm. The objectives of the meeting are to inform the research
community about the scope and process of the programme, to outline current
plans for the Directorship, to explain links with the STI and to consult
with researchers about their needs and expectations. The aim is to have an
open discussion about how to make the Programme interesting, effective and
rewarding.
If you are interested in attending this meeting, please contact Oliver
Keetch at the ESRC - [log in to unmask] by 26th November 2001. There
are a limited number of places available.
