Jane,
Your email has prompted some interesting responses and I thought I would
take the opportunity to inform you of a few initiatives in which you may be
interested (and others may wish to investigate too):
Ecocampus: An EMS for Universities and Colleges being led by Going for Green
and including the University od Bradford, Oxford Brookes University, Bishop
Burton College, Wigan and Leigh College, Leeds Metropolitan University,
Nottingham Trent University, St Helens College, Worcester College ... more
details can be obtained from http://www.tidybritain.org.uk/
EAUC: Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges
(www.eauc.org.uk)
HEPS: see www.forumforthefuture.org.uk
HEFCE Good Management Practice Project 232 - led by the University of
Bradford by Peter Hopkinson ([log in to unmask])
Good Practice in Sustainable Education - Led by John Blewitt for the
Learning and Skills Council, email: [log in to unmask]
What is apparent - is a lack of drivers to integrate
environmental/sustainable development into the curriculum from HEFCE / LSC
and certainly DFES. This means too often it is at the whim of progressive
academics to take the lead. However, the projects I have been involved with
above all have elements of curriculum greening in them.
Regards,
Andy Nolan
