Dear list members,
this is the first call for the following conference:
First International Conference on the thaumasite form of sulfate attack
An international conference to address the issues surrounding the thaumasite
form of sulfate attack is to be staged next year. The First International
Conference on Thaumasite in Cementitious Materials is being arranged by BRE.
Potential speakers are invited to submit proposals for presentations.
The conference will take place at BRE's headquarters in Garston,
Hertfordshire, UK, between Thursday 20 and Saturday 22 June 2002. The papers
will be given on Thursday 20 and Friday 21, with an optional field visit
being organised for Saturday 22 June.
This First International Conference offers a significant opportunity to
raise the level of debate, provide a forum for dissemination of research,
and to exchange ideas. Only through such debate and information exchange
will it be possible to effectively specify concrete to resist this form of
sulfate attack and to provide guidance for both new and existing concrete
structures.
Although the thaumasite form of sulfate attack has become a high profile
issue in the UK in recent years, and has been found in other countries, the
level of awareness of this form of attack is surprising low on the
international stage. This first conference aims to raise awareness of the
thaumasite form of sulfate attack across the globe, and begin the process of
international specification to minimise the risks.
Appropriately qualified and experienced speakers are invited to submit an
abstract of their proposed presentation, no longer than one side of A4, by
30 April 2001.
For further information or to submit an abstract, contact Angela Mondair at
BRE on tel: 01923 664775, fax: 01923 664606 or e-mail: [log in to unmask] A
limited number of places are available for those wishing to display an
exhibition stand at the seminar. Please contact BRE for details.
