This conference will address two sets of issues
"How will new technologies affect the shape of our cities and regions?"
Will the effects of e-commerce, home teleworking, and 'wired up
communities' mean new patterns for
housing and commercial development? Will this mean changes to the shape
and form of towns and cities?
Will today's e-revolution mean changes to the shape and structure of our
environment, as dramatic as those
of the industrial revolution, and will those changes be in the interests
of sustainability?
"How can we use new technologies to better plan for our cities and
regions?"
How can interactive tools such as the internet help us plan online ?
does this mean democratisation of the
planning system ? Is there best practice to be learnt from abroad?
This conference is for:
- policy and planning officers in regional and local government
- private sector corporate managers and strategists
- development and forward planners independent policy researchers and
'think tanks'
- providers of the new services and industries
- housebuilders and commercial developers
- consultants in planning and development
All delegates receive, upon registration, a free hardback edition of
Digital Futures: Living in a Dot Com
World (2001) Edited by James Wilsdon, Earthscan, London (usual price

Commission to BBC Newsnight's
