Yes, but the bn and bz edit descriptors apply only to input. They have no
effect on output ("Fortran 90/95 Explained", Section 9.13.5). The problem
that one is up against here is that whether the leading zero is printed or
not is processor dependent (Section 9.13.2) and the only possible way to
control it, as has been pointed out, is by a possible compiler switch or by
'rolling your own'.
