Vespers According to the Rite of
the Great Church of Hagia Sophia, Constantinople
for the Vigil of the Feast of the Fathers of the
1st Ecumenical Council at Nicaea

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Kallistos Ware, Chief Celebrant

The Greek Byzantine Choir (Athens)
Lycourgos Angelopoulos, director

St. Peteršs College Chapel
Saturday 26 May 2001 at 6 PM

This service, which is free and open to the public, will be the first
celebration in over 500 years of an ancient form of worship originating in
the urban basilicas of Late Antiquity. The reconstruction, made from
medieval sources by Dr. Alexander Lingas (St. Peteršs) and Mr. Ioannis
Arvanitis (Ionian University, Corfu) with the assistance of Archimandrite
Ephrem (Lash), will follow the order of the 10th-century Typikon of the
Great Church.
Information: (01865) 278917 or [log in to unmask]

Graciously made possible by a grant from the A.G. Leventis Foundation

-------------

On Sunday, 27 May the Greek Byzantine Choir will sing matins (9.15 AM) and
Divine Liturgy (10.30 AM) according to the received Byzantine rite at
Oxford's Orthodox Church, 1 Canterbury Road (just off the Banbury Road).
