AN INTRODUCTION TO ARCHIVE PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION
A study day at the National Gallery on archival preservation and
conversation
This study day is aimed at librarians and other professionals who have
responsibility for archives as well as lone archivists working within a
library setting. The day will cover all aspects of managing a
preservation and conservation programme for archives. It will include
sessions on storage environment, handling, the use of surrogates
(microfilming and digitisation), employing a conservator and the special
needs of different media from volumes and manuscripts to photographs and
art works with a session on the preservation of digital collections.
Speakers will examine the theoretical ideals while considering practical
solutions for those working within time and budgetary constraints.
Venue: The National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, London.
Date and time: Tuesday 23 October 2001, 10:00am – 4:30pm.
Cost, including lunch: £100 ARLIS members £70 retired £120 non
