'THE SCULPTOR SPEAKS'
PUBLIC LECTURE AT
LEEDS CITY ART GALLERY
The Headrow, Leeds
2.30PM SATURDAY 20 OCTOBER 2001
The art critic and author Mel Gooding will launch 'The Sculptor Speaks:
extracts from recordings with post-war British sculptors', a CD compiled for
the British Library's National Sound Archive in conjunction with the
collections of Leeds Museums & Galleries by the curatorial team at the Henry
Moore Institute. This CD, which has also been incorporated in the
collections display 'New Generations: Sculpture in Britain, 1951-2001' in
Leeds City Art Gallery, is an introduction to the resources of the 'Artists'
Lives' section of the National Life Story Collection, of which Mel is
Chairman.
Mel will give a sound and slide lecture about 'The Sculptor Speaks' in the
lecture theatre in Leeds City Art Gallery. Afterwards, tea will be served
and there will be an opportunity to view the 'New Generations' display. As
Mel is a well-informed and highly entertaining speaker, this should be an
enjoyable afternoon.
We very much hope that you will be able to join us! The lecture is free and
the CD will be available on the day at a promotional price of £5. The CD
will be available for sale afterwards at the Henry Moore Institute and by
mail order at £6.50 per copy + £1.00 postage and packing.
