I would be grateful if members of Allstat would forward the following to
their final-year students (in Maths, Stats or OR --- since the three
studentships require differing expertise).
Applications are invited for three NERC research studentships to be held
from 1st October 2001 for three years. Two of these studentships derive from
the Universities Weather Research Network (co-ordinated by Reading
University), and one is a quota award. All three studentships will be held
in the Propagation and Remote Sensing Research Group, which spans both the
Department of Electronics Systems Engineering and the Department of
Mathematics. There will be one studentship in each of the three areas:
1. radar data assimilation in numerical weather prediction,
2. spatial models of physical soil attributes,
3. rainfall measurement by microwave attenuation.
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a 1st or 2(i) class honours
degree in an appropriate subject. Further details are to be found at
