Title: Statistical Education for Everyone at the Beginning of the 21st Century: From Schools and FE through Universities and on to Continuing Professional Development.
By: Neville Davies, Bradley Payne and Doreen Connor (of The Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education, Nottingham Trent University)
This talk will illustrate the work of the RSS Centre for Statistical Education (http://science.ntu.ac.uk/rsscse/ ) by describing four long-term projects. These are:
(1) Schools and Further Education. Where the Centre is running a national census of pupils in schools, called CenusAtSchool, jointly with the UK National Statistics Office;
(2) University, where the Centre is a joint partner in the new National Centre for Learning and Teaching in Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research
(3) Continuing Professional Development, where the Centre is closely involved with developing a strategy for CPD for the RSS's Chartered Statisticians
(4) Society in general, where the Centre has helped a number of financial services companies to better utilise publicly available statistics.
The speakers will also outline some plans for the future, including working closely with the Office for National Statistics and ways of running the CensusAtSchool project elsewhere in the world.
