Like others, I am very grateful to Gordon for all of the hard
work he has put into developing the scheme. However, I also
share the view that much more clinical information is required
if the scheme is to become compulsory. I think that many of the
mistakes which participants make result from "over-commenting"
in the absence of sufficient clinical information. Certainly I
would very rarely if ever commit myself in writing on the basis
of the information provided in these cases. I would almost
always visit the ward to see the patient or speak to the
clinician looking after the patient first. Since this is my
routine practice, I would expect any compulsory scheme to
provide a similar level of information to that which I would
normally obtain.
