Can anyone help?
All I can think of is measuring the arse of a couple of
ponies....though I am sure I have heard a better
methodology somewhere else - with a long discussion on how
far apart the wheels on a prehistoric cart were likely to
be.

An odd question. I am trying to establish how wide the
backside of an Iron Age horse was - it is crucial to
working out how chariots work. Of course the standard bone
measurements taken for archzoology don't really immediately
help - any thoughts?
