References to Mock Turtle Soup in Maryland (very
popular during the terrapin craze in the early 20th
century) warn that Muskrat can be used to create a
convincing Turtle Soup flavor at less than half the
price of Diamondback Terrapin. Sea turtles,
Red-bellied and Snapping turtles were also used for
turtle soup. I have found no references to the use of
smaller, more terrestrial turtles being made into
soup.
