I have read your message with interest and agree that it is useful to have
more information for midwives wishing to register in the Netherelands,
particularly at a time when the shortage of staff is quite acute in certain
parts of the country.
However I think it is important to note that midwives who are EU nationals
and have trained in a EU member state will automatically be registered in
The Netherlands as they would anywhere else in the EU. There were some
greater difficulties for midwives coming from Belgium because Belgium was
not complying with the European Directives, but that situation is now
rectified.
However because the situation in the Netherlands is so different from the
rest of Europe, midwives are encouraged to attend a course that is offered
to update them on the situation in the country. Successful completion or
even attendance at the course is NOT a pre-requisite for registration.
