Dana,
It is nice to know that an American woman enjoyed her experience! Shame
she did not meet a midwife during labour - but you can't have everything :-)
On the point of the updated stats, you could look at the DoH publication on
NHS Maternity Statistics for England 1995-96 and 1997-98 at
http://www.doh.gov.uk/pdfs/sb0114.pdf
Table 12-13 of the Excel file found at
<http://www.doh.gov.uk/public/sb0114tables.xls> provides the information
for the persons conducting the deliveries from 1989 to 1998. Those tables
do not include perinatal mortality - at least as far as I could see at
first glance - but do include some fascinating stuff which are well worth a
good read.
This page <http://www.doh.gov.uk/HPSSS/TBL_A14.HTM> will give you some
basic epidemiological results, including perinatal mortality for 1992 to 1998.
I hope that this is helpful.
Good luck
Marianne
