One of our French colleagues, Francoise Alptuna from the medical
library in Paris, has visited the medical library at Pristina (Kosova) for a
programme of rehabilitation run by the EU. The description of the
library and its services is almost beyond belief. One of the main
problems is the lack of trained staff (and if they are trained it was a very
long time ago). She has asked me if I can recommend books - basic
books in English as this now the language they will use. So please
would you recommend books that you have found useful in:
Cataloguing
Classification (NLM)
MeSH subject headings
Acquisitions
Periodicals
Searching and searching PubMed
Readers services
Outreach services
I am aware that there are some very useful books for health science
libraries, covering a multitude of relevant subjects and it would be useful
if you could point to particularly useful chapters - or perhaps you have
your own manuals in printed form. I'd really appreciate your help in this
matter as it is some time since I was a practising librarian - and they
really do need help.

Perhaps I should point out that this information is needed for those who
are qualified librarians, but have had little opportunity to gain
experience or develop their professional skills.
