In answer to Jane and any other publishers out there, I would ask
publishers to make next year's prices and pricing policies available to
libraries as soon as possible - on their websites and by sending out
lists/catalogues of journal prices.
We have to make routine renewal decisions so early (by the end of
September) that we need to have this information early in August to
stand any chance of making informed decisions.
I've had to suspend renewal on all subscriptions for 2 major science
departments this year in order to have enough time to gather the
necessary information - which runs the risk of interrupted supply and
'lost' e-access at the start of 2002.
