Hi Kelvyn (and other list members),
Hope all is well at UWCM. It seems a long time since I was over there.
There are a number of issues going on at the moment. I will try to
clarify.
The problem that Aberystwyth is experiencing happened because we were
not informed that this site required access to the NESLI deal via
ingenta.
This is undoubtedly the fault of incomplete communication between
ingenta
and Blackwell's -- not a good answer, but the truth, and we apologise
for
this -- and of course, we are in the process of rectifying it. My
colleague Sam Phillips has spoken to Sandra to explain what is going on.
There are some other sites that this affects, and all of these have now
had their NESLI access activated via ingenta.
The main issue that you raise regarding ability to access titles through
ingenta is a larger issue affecting us. We get our subscription files
from
publishers -- and if they are not accurate or up to date we can only go
back
to the publisher to seek more accurate information. Often the reason for
the
omission is that subscription agents do not inform the publishers of how
the
customer would like to access the titles. It isn't an ideal system, and
we have identified this area of communication as an extremely important
area that we should concentrate on when working on our development plans
for the future.
To speed your access of Blackwell Science journals through ingenta, it
is suggested that you start with your subscription agent when you place
your NESLI order, and tell them that you would like to view your
subscriptions through ingenta. The agent should then pass this
information on to the publisher and you should be able to get access
more quickly.
I'm sorry that you have found this element of ingenta's service
difficult
and frustrating -- but be assured that we are striving to improve our
systems and processes to make accessing your subscriptions as easy and
as
straightforward as possible. We are also developing new modules for
librarians so they can check our records of their subscriptions more
easily.
Give me a call if you want to clarify any of this.
Best wishes,
Terry
