DOCUSEND PROJECT MANAGER AND TECHNICAL OFFICER

Docusend is a national three-year project funded by the 
Joint Information Systems Committee to produce a document 
request and delivery broker service.  It is part of the 
JOIN-UP programme, which will co-ordinate the development 
of Docusend with that of two other JISC 5/99 projects and a 
BL/MIMAS project.  Through JOIN-UP the four projects will 
contribute to the development of the Distributed National 
Electronic Resource (DNER) by the production of separate 
but compatible and inter-operable broker services.  The 
Docusend partners are the eleven universities who comprise 
Lamda (http://lamdaweb.mcc.ac.uk), the electronic document 
delivery service, with King's College London as the lead 
site.

Two posts are currently available for a period of three 
years. Ideally we would like both postholders to be based 
in Manchester and to be co-located with Lamda Support 
Office staff. However, we would consider applications from 
candidates who could work from the following other 
locations: London, Leeds or Birmingham, (subject to 
agreement with the Project Director). Candidates who are 
not able to be based in Manchester should make their 
position clear in their applications.

PROJECT MANAGER

The responsibilities will include the day to day management 
and progression of the project and the provision of 
strategic input and advice for the development of Docusend. 
Liaison with the other JOIN-UP partners and the user 
community will be important elements of the job.  
Applicants should be educated to degree level and have 
experience of project management and excellent 
communication and liaison skills.  An understanding of the 
issues relevant to the implementation of Z39.50 and of the 
recent development of document delivery services and of the 
DNER would be advantageous.

Salary will be circa £28-£30,000 depending on skills and 
experience.  Holidays will be 25 per year, plus public

TECHNICAL OFFICER (Half Time post)

The post-holder's duties will include responsibility for 
the technical work necessary for the development and 
implementation of the Project, management of the Docusend 
server in conjunction with technical staff at Edina 
(Edinburgh University) and work on the Lamda union list.  
Liaison with the other JOIN-UP partners, software 
providers, and the user community will be important 
elements of the job.  Applicants should have a degree in 
computing or a related subject, knowledge of UNIX and 
familiarity with the development and implementation of the 
Z39.50 protocol. An understanding of the recent 
developments in document delivery services and of the DNER 
would be advantageous.

Salary will be within the ALC 1/2 range £16,775 - £25,213 
(pro rata for half time).  Holidays will be 25 per year
