Christ Michael you remind me of those fanatical film historians I once saw
come near a punch up at a conference in Sydney over dating the beginning of
cinema. They were trembling with anger. Scary people.
Now the interesting question is surely what we can learn from Nanook. I
think that William Rothman's article on it is brilliant but flawed in that
it is tied indirectly (via Cavell presumably) to Heideggerian notions of
truth. That I would be interested in discussing.
