i have absolutely no interest i getting into the complex
class structure issues that karl carlile raises [though a
cynic might suggest that these issues are raised as
much for their ability to obscure more basic questions
as for shedding real light]
but i do need to object vehmently to the idea that
anti-terrorist sentiment is simply an expression of
the desire of the petty bourgeoisie to maintain their
lifestyle . . . the implication here is that the desire to
stay alive, and to be free of active threats to one's
own well being, is itself a corrupt and retrogressive
ideology . . . this leads to the conclusion that having the
right ideas is more important than staying alive, a
posture that can easily justify the destruction in
an hour of five thousand lives
