I have been asked to se a patient who has apparently passed two
renal stones consisting almost entirely of cholesterol.
her lipid profile is apparently normal and I have found a very small
amount in the literature about cholesterol crystals in urine but
nothing about cholesterol stones.
Any advice on how to investigate will be gratefully received.
- i have read that proteinuria should be carefully looked for, but
beyond that I have found nothing helpful.
The specific question that has been posed is whether lipid lowering
agents (eg statins) might be appropriate despite the normal
lipid profile (sorry no lipd values known to me yet).
any references would be of especial interest.
