I think you should acknowledge that there are many different
interpretations to your question "...do we need consent ?" and that
there is not an absolute answer of 'yes' or 'no'.
The province of Quebec in Canada passed a law several years ago making
the performance of additional tests without the consent of a patient
illegal. The rest of Canada has not adopted this type of law yet, but
who knows what the politicians are working on behind closed doors.
So in response to your question... "Do we need consent", I reply
"Maybe".
