Julian, I'm not sure I follow the logic of that. Firstly, The HoD is going
to see your response, whether you sent it 'personally' to him/her or to the
list. Secondly, would you really be wanting to respond to the least in
reply to a job advert?! Perhaps I'm missing something?
I've seen these discussions on so many lists, and it's never possible to
get a consensus. There is so much between-lists (and, seemingly, sometimes
even 'within-list, between-messages') variation in the 'reply behaviour',
that, having pressed 'Reply' (theoretically 'to sender'), or 'Reply to
All', I ALWAYS look to see what addresses the software has put into the To:
and CC: filelds of my reply, and edit as necessary before pressing 'Send' -
and I would suggest that everyone should probably do likewise, regardings
of the configuratioin and defaults of the list concerned!
As an example, when I pressed 'Reply to All' (in Eudora) in order to reply
to this message, the result was TWO occurrences of the RADSTATS address in
the To: field of my reply (because that address occured BOTH in the 'To;'
and 'Reply-To:' fields of the message I received, one of which I removed
'manually', and NO occurrences of Julian's address in either 'To:' or 'CC:'
fields of my reply.
... my two penneth, anyway!
Kind Regards,
John
