This kind of petition DOES NOT work. Each name gets multiplied too many
times to be usefully counted. Do the math - if the first person sent it to
5 people, who each sent it to 5 people and now we're at 306, how many times
has the first name been multiplied and how many e-mails generated? (I
actually tried doing this on a spreadsheet - it gets into huge numbers
pretty fast) The account for [log in to unmask] has been suspended,
mail sent there is returned. This is what usually happens, there are a lot
of these petitions about started by well-meaning people who haven't worked
out the consequences of their actions (a huge influx of vast e-mails).
E-mail petitions of this type cannot work. ANYTHING that says 'send it to
everyone you know' should be treated as a hoax and deleted.
For more information on this see http://www.hoaxkill.com/chainletters.html
- it's an interesting site and also has lots of fun stuff about urban legends.
If you want to do something about the rainforests visit
http://www.therainforestsite.com it's a sister site to the hungersite;
companies pledge money for each person that visits the site, and with that
money they are buying up rainforest land.
